Every great accomplishment had a sound strategy behind it. Winging it might spice up your life, but having no plan is a recipe for disappointment. Great feats are achieved as a result of people knowing what they want and why! Think about your favourite professional sports person or business super achiever. Do you think it’s possible that he or she became successful without first setting up a target and then taking aim? Not likely. And so it is with your money. The future will come whether you plan for it or not. The questions is, will you have the future you want or the future that happens to you by default? What would your life be like if you had a financial strategy based on what was truly important to you, where all your investments, your savings, your debt and your insurance programs were working in harmony to achieve your goals? Don't just react to events. Take control. While I would rarely advocate doing it yourself, I would never be critical of you wanting to do it your way. Just find your way and get started! And there are no excuses! Mary was 61 when she told me she had decided to go to school, which I thought was brilliant. Her son however, he didn’t think so. Mary confided, “Pete, told me, ‘Mum, it will be 3 years before you finish your degree, you’ll be 64 by then.’” Her reply: “Pete, how old will I be in 3 years if I don’t go back to school?” There are no good excuses. Not too old, too poor, too rich, too busy. Failing is never as good as succeeding. Even with a really good excuse.
